Conference: The Global Economic Costs of Conflict

The German Institute for Economic Research (DIW Berlin), the German Foundation

for Peace Research (DSF) and the Households in Conflict Network (HiCN) are
organizing an international research conference on the costs of conflict and
related themes. The purpose of this conference is to bring together researchers
and to compare theoretical, empirical and methodological research focusing on
the costs and consequences of violent conflict. For that reason, DIW Berlin,
DSF and HiCN will organize a conference in which scholars from all disciplines
and all levels of seniority can present work that is related to the
theoretical, empirical and methodological foundations of the calculation of the
global costs of conflict. A non-exhaustive list of research topics may
include:

ü Magnitude of the costs of conflict in cross-country analysis

ü Effects of conflict on health and schooling
ü Household coping strategies in (post-)conflict situations
ü The relationship between conflict and foreign investment
ü Accounting techniques for the calculation of conflict costs
ü Case studies on the estimation of the costs of military disputes
ü Case studies on the cost-benefit analyses of military interventions
ü International spillover effects of conflict on neighboring countries
